Born on 6 Feb. 1982, Fidel Henderson Edwards is a Barbadian cricketer playing all formats of the cricket game. He was spotted by the legendary Brian Lara in the nets and was selected to play a test match against Sri Lanka. Despite a great start in the test game, he has been inconsistent and injury-prone. With just under 40 average in the test game, he struggled to fulfill his initial potential.
What sets him apart is that he is ranked among the most short-heighted fast blowers playing international cricket. With a stature of 5 feet 5 inches, Fidel Edwards is considered the most short height fast blower. His speed is around 80s to mid-90s, with his fastest ball being recorded at 157.7 km/h. He uses a special slinger action to create express pace, the same modus operandi as Shaun Tait, Lasith Malinga, or the great Jeff Thomson.
Despite a promising start to his Test career, he has been injury-prone and inconsistent. With an average of just under 40 in Test cricket, he has struggled to fulfill his early potential. He’s the half-brother of Pedro Collins.
The experienced campaigner also plays in BPL (Bangladesh Premier League). He was first bought by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2013 for USD 210,000. On 6 Feb 2009, the Deccan Chargers, an IPL franchise, bought him for USD 150,000. YMPC is his club team in Barbados. Edwards made his debut on 1 Feb 2002 playing against the Windward Islands. He opened with Tino Best in the first innings and secured only one wicked of Junior Murray in the second half.
